The list of award winners in the annual Landscape Photographer of the Year competition has been revealed – and three contributors to The Great Outdoors Magazine have made the cut.
Mark Gilligan, whose shots of Lakeland have graced many an issue of TGO, picked up the #OMGB ‘Home of Amazing Moments’ Award for his shot of a rainbow arcing over Wast Water and Dougie Cunningham, who was the photographer behind the cover image for our latest issue (November 2016), was a category winner for his image of a Loch Stack in Sutherland (pictured above).
Commended for a shot of the Brecon Beacons at dawn was South Wales photographer, Grant Hyatt. You can see another stunning image of Wales’s mountains by him in our latest issue – out now.
The top prize in this year’s search for the UK’s Landscape Photographer of the Year went to Matthew Cattell for his image of a starling filled sky over the remains of Brighton’s West Pier.
The picture was chosen, by judges, from the thousands of entries celebrating the richly diverse landscape of the UK. The competition is held in association with VisitBritain and the GREAT Britain #OMGB @Home of Amazing Moments’ Campaign.
Winning entries will be displayed on the Balcony of London Waterloo from 21st November 2016 until 5th February 2017. The Awards book, Landscape Photographer of the Year: Collection 10 (AA Publishing) is available now.
