Mountaineering Scotland, formally the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, has announced the launch this week of a brand new website: www.mountaineering.scot
The organisation says that the new site is designed to provide a gateway to hillwalking, mountaineering, climbing and snow sports touring in Scotland.
Also unveiled with the site is the organisation’s new logo, which is based on the iconic mountain outline of Buachaille Etive Mor. This was the winning entry in a design competition held this summer, which was open to Mountaineering Scotland members and the general public.
The website and logo are the culmination of an organisational rebrand to ‘Mountaineering Scotland’ from ‘Mountaineering Council of Scotland’ that began in the spring after consultation with members.
Mountaineering Scotland CEO David Gibson explained how the organisation, based in Perth and at Glenmore Lodge, plans to grow its 13,000 membership:
“Indoor climbing is one of the nation’s fastest growing sports and is set to become even more popular as it becomes an Olympic sport for the first time in 2020. Passion for the Scottish mountains is at an equal high and we want to encourage even more people to give hill walking a try as part of an active lifestyle. Our new identity is all part of our plans to do this.”
On the website there is advice on getting started in mountaineering activities, including hill walking, winter mountaineering and climbing. It also has features on Mountaineering Scotland’s campaigns and guidance for mountain safety and skills.
