A lightweight axe ideal for hillwalking and glacier travel.

The Glacier replaces Petzl’s Snowalker axe and like that model is ideal for hillwalking and general mountaineering (it’s designed for glacier travel say Petzl, hence the name). The weight is low and it has a good design. The pick is a little more curved than that of the Snowalker and the adze is quite wide. There’s no rubber grip on the lower shaft but there are grooves in the shaft to make it more secure to hold. The axe isn’t designed to be used for step cutting or climbing with the pick swung into the snow anyway – it’s a bit too light for these. The axe comes with a thick cord leash with a webbing hand loop. The latter could do with being a bit bigger though. It’s a tight fit when wearing thick mitts or gloves.
