Workwear company Scruffs’ anorak-style jacket is made from a heavy fairly stiff fabric and feels tough, as it should be given the high weight and bulk. There’s just a short zip at the neck and another at one side to make getting it on easier. It’s still a bit of a struggle though and I’d much rather a much longer neck zip. The pockets are quite roomy but not mapsize. The lower pocket runs right across the front of the top, with openings on both side. It’s covered by a hipbelt. The two smaller pockets above it are still accessible however. Ventilation is almost non-existent as the short neck opening only allows a little air in and out and the cuffs are close-fitting. This is a top in which you can get sweaty quite quickly. The hood gives good protection though there’s no peak. The fit is described as ‘relaxed’. I found it fine around the body but a little close-fitting at the neck. Given the short zip I’d like much more room here. There is one big plus point to this top – the very low price. If money is tight it will keep the rain out and is suitable for the hills. If the fit is okay it could also be worth considering for any rough use where a lighter jacket might get trashed. And of course if that happens to this top it’s not too expensive to replace.
