Phoebe Smith, author of Extreme Sleeps and Book of the Bothy, is giving up her Christmas to raise money for the homeless charity Centrepoint
It’s a slightly different interpretation of the Three Peaks Challenge. This Christmas, Phoebe Smith plans to spend the night of Friday the 22nd on Snowdon, Saturday night on Scafell Pike, and Christmas Eve on Ben Nevis – to wake on Christmas morning as the highest person in the UK.
Phoebe Smith is the author of several outdoor books including Extreme Sleeps (all about wild camping), The Book of the Bothy (you’ve guessed it, bothies) and her latest, Britain’s Best Small Hills. She is also editor of Wanderlust magazine.
Phoebe said: “I love sleeping in wild places, but I am very aware that I’m privileged enough to do this for fun whereas many young people don’t get the choice.
“Up to 16,000 people between 16-25 will be at risk of homelessness over Christmas through no fault of their own and during the festive season it’s all too easy to get caught up in everything in our own lives and forget these people.
“I hope to change that. By giving up my Christmas I hope to help raise money to help young people get the choice to sleep rough for fun rather than necessity. Even if my actions helps just one person it will be worth sacrificing the roast!”
The charity Centrepoint helps over 9,000 homeless 16-25-year-olds into a home and a job every single year.
Phoebe Smith aims to raise £5,000 for Centrepoint with your help. To donate, visit her JustGiving page. You can follow her Sleeping the Three Peaks adventure on Twitter or Instragram @PhoebeRSmith.
