Chris Townsend reviews a top-quality jacket made with water-resistant down.

This review is part of our down jackets gear guide, and was first published in the January 2019 issue of The Great Outdoors.

The Climaheat is one of the warmest jackets tested. It’s also the second heaviest, but it’s still light. The down is water-resistant. Adidas doesn’t provide any information regarding sourcing standards. The shell has a DWR treatment and is soft and comfortable.

The hood is shaped and fits well. The volume adjuster means it can be cinched down so it stays on in the wind. The handwarmer pockets are roomy but cut off by a hipbelt. The chest pocket is fine for a smartphone but not a map. The jacket can be stuffed into the stretch mesh inner pocket. The stiff flap inside the main zip is wider than most. There are fleece panels under the arms, presumably for ventilation (Adidas doesn’t say). Whilst it’s not a big problem the wind can blow through these. I don’t see the point of them.

This is another ‘regular’ fit jacket that I think is on the small side. Like other similar-sized ones I can wear it over a thin fleece but no more.

The Climaheat is the equal most expensive jacket reviewed. It is a top-quality down garment that should last well and be warm in the coldest winter weather.
