Active, the most breathable type of Gore- Tex, is aimed, as the name suggests, at running and other high-energy pursuits. The L.I.M Comp is a general-purpose ultralight jacket that works well for walking. The fabric is very breathable, and quite soft and comfortable to wear.
The design is mixed. I like the roomy pockets which easily hold maps. The bottom is just cut off by a hipbelt but not enough to make a difference. The pocket bags are mesh so the pockets can be left open for ventilation.
The hood’s elastication runs from the front right round the back of the head with short elasticated sections on the sides of the face and a stretchy gusset inside the stiff peak. It hugs the head much better than most non-adjustable hoods and stays in place in strong winds. But I’d still rather have drawcords, so the hood doesn’t have to close-fitting all the time.
The cuffs are elasticated too, cutting ventilation in the sleeves, and so is the hem, though I haven’t noticed any problems with the latter.
The L.I.M Comp is expensive. It’s a functional jacket but I think there are better ones at a lower cost.
