With coastal, mountain and forest paths, there’s something for everyone on this route in the Anaga Mountains
With their verdant cloud forests, secluded beaches and spiky peaks, the Anaga mountains couldn’t be more different to Teide National Park. The whole range is a paradise for walkers, but one of the best routes begins at the pint-sized village of Benijo and runs for five winding kilometres along the coast before heading uphill to bag Montana Tafada at 593 metres.
The paths are remote and immensely beautiful but clear and well marked, and there are secluded sandy beaches where you can stop for a paddle en-route. From Benijo, follow the clear track east to reach the hamlet of El Draguillo and continue on past the hamlet until you arrive at the Faro de Anaga lighthouse.
Bear inland here to reach the crest of Montana Tafada, and take in the pretty village of Chamorga before weaving back through the mountains to a fork in the path above El Draguillo. A stunningly scenic path overlooking the coast brings you back eventually to your starting point. Allow five hours to complete the full 13 kilometres.
