A less technical garment, the Sherpa Santi Full Zip still does a good job as an insulating layer, albeit with more of an emphasis of aesthetic rather than functional details, it has also previously been featured in our guide to the best fleeces.

The fabric has a smooth outer face with a bold print, and inside is a soft French terry that feels very luxurious in a way that is unlike fleeces that I normally wear. Rayon is an interesting fibre- it’s synthetic, but derived from cellulose, rather than fossil fuels, making it a renewable source. This combined with the recycled polyester and Sherpa’s responsible trading practices make this fleece a nice choice for the ethically conscious buyer.
The shape is quite boxy and the jacket is more practical worn over layers than under them- and who would want to cover up that bright print? There are big soft handwarmer pockets, but no zips, so they aren’t much use for stashing things in. I really like the huge collar, which stands proud and is easy to snuggle into. Lined cuffs with thumb loops help to keep out drafts.
This wouldn’t be my preferred fleece for layering in wet conditions, (although it would do the job ok), but it is lovely for cool crisp weather and outdoor activities when moisture management isn’t a big issue. Think bouldering, picnics, and covid-safe outdoor socialising.
