Kirk Watson reviews the Patagonia Piolet Jacket as an all year waterproof
Fit: Mainly a good fit, just a little bulky around the front, but the material is very flexible and comfortable to wear. It has a soft collar which is nice round your neck and face. Like all Patagonia kit, it is well-made.
Material: The 2-layer Gore-tex is very waterproof and breathable. It is slightly heavier than the other Gore-Tex jackets, possibly due to the mesh liner. It is also a little less hard wearing than some of the other jackets tested.
Hood: The hood is behind a collar. It’s a good fi t and holds to the head well, and a helmet fi ts underneath
Pockets: One lined chest pocket for your map and compass. It also has two lined pockets just above the waist area that would just be usuable with a hipbelt, although some items may fall below the hipbelt.
Venting: Good pit zips here.
Price: A competitive price for this kind of jacket.
Conclusion: A good mountain jacket. It is a little loose round the front and not hugely hard wearing but holds up well to the weather. The great thing about it being Patagonia is you know it has been made in an environmentally friendly way, as Patagonia is one of the most eco-conscious outdoor companies out there. Check out their higher spec jackets too.
