Mammut’s Miva is a beautiful thing. If your winter conditions are down-friendly (dry and cold) and you are able to care for down correctly (don’t sweat in it or get it damp, store it loosepacked so it can loft), this is a cosy addition to your winter wardrobe. Super-lightweight Pertex Quantum outer teams with 750 fi ll down to provide the ultimate warmth to weight ratio. Horizontal baffl es are stitched through at the back so the down won’t move, even under a rucksack. At the front, the lining is loose to allow for pockets. These are zipped; the left pocket doubles as a stuff -sack. The front zip has a nonsnag baffl e and chinguard, with the collar and chinguard in Pertex rather than brushed (I guess this is to save a few grams). Elastane-bound armholes are generous and ideal for layering over mid and shell layers, making this an ideal summit garment for instant extra warmth. If I was quibbling, I’d ask for 2cm more around the neck so I could zip it up over a shell jacket as well.
