These Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Boot hiking socks fit well and are very hard-wearing. They are made from 56% synthetic materials and 44% non-mulesed wool. Only 18% of the latter is merino wool. I’d expect a much higher percentage from a sock with merino in the name. I think the high synthetic content is the reason the socks are a little matted inside in a few places after a day’s wear. To keep them comfortable and performing well they do need to be washed after each wearing, which is fine for day hiking but not for backpacking. If washed regularly they do come up fluffy and keep their shape.
Chris Townsend’s verdict
- Durable
- Warm
- Fast Wicking
- Need frequent washing
- Low merino wool content

The Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Boot socks have terry loop construction except at the front of the leg, which is plain knit for ventilation. The terry loop padding is zoned with thicker areas at the heel, toe, and underfoot. A stretchy cuff ensures the socks stay up. The Midweight Merino socks are comfortable, warm and handle moisture well. They were previously called the Trekker and I know from years of wearing these that they are durable
