The Skyline UL camping chair does an excellent job at balancing comfort with low weight and portability. At 795g (including the carry bag), this is definitely a very lightweight chair. Whilst lighter options are available on the market, very few are likely to be as comfortable and stable. I was really impressed with the overall comfort provided by this chair. It has a seat height of 38cm – higher than the lightest camp chairs, and this is enough to make sitting for long periods considerably more comfortable. The standing height of the chair is 66cm, which provides ample back support for the majority of users.

Stability is also very impressive for such a lightweight chair. The poles are slightly curved at the bottom and sides, helping to keep the chair feel stable in all directions. Compared to many other chairs, you can lean further forward without overbalancing, meaning it is easy to sit whilst cooking on a stove on the ground. The pole design is hub-less, and uses a series of notches to secure the poles together. As a result this chair takes slightly longer to assemble than some others, but it helps to keep the weight and pack size down.
Colour coded pole pockets are a simple but effective touch to make things as quick as possible. The materials are excellent throughout. The 70D Robic nylon on the seat has a waterproof UTS coating which both enhances the tear strength and makes the fabric soft to the touch.
When folded away the pack size is very small (40x10x7cm), and I could easily fit it in the side mesh pocket of some backpacks. An insulated cover for the chair can be bought separately for use in cold weather, but this will increase the weight by 210g and set you back £44.99.
Overall the Skyline UL is a really excellent camp chair. It offers superb comfort and stability at a very low weight, and the materials are robust enough that it should withstand heavy usage. No other chairs in this test achieve this balance quite so well, so I’m happy to award the Big Agnes Skyline UL Chair as ‘Best in Test’.
