Outdoor Research have got a very versatile hiking glove with the Sureshot Pro, being warm and waterproof, but not heavy or bulky. The fit is snug and the fingers are a good length, without lots of fabric at the end, so fine motor skills aren’t compromised. There’s some pre shaping which keeps the gloves in the right place on your hand.

The cuffs are slightly flared so you can get them over your hands and a watch or layers easily, with a velcro closure that cinches the cuff up nicely. Once it’s tightened, it’s not too bulky, partly due to there being no insulation on the outside of the wrist, but isn’t an issue for overall warmth. They’re quite long, so there’s no gaps between them and your sleeves, but they would sit over a watch instead of against it.
A stretchy material on the back of your hand makes movement feel easy, and the goat leather palm is grippy and durable. There’s no leather on the outside two fingers, which does save a bit of weight, but means they will show wear quicker, especially if these gloves are used on rock. The lining is soft and cosy, with ActiveTemp heat regulating technology to keep your hands warm in most weathers. There’s a Ventia waterproof insert which stood up to some pretty wet days, and once it does wet out, the gloves are still warm.
The thumb and forefinger work well on touchscreens, and you can check mapping or write messages with a little bit of patience and concentration! There’s a generous pull loop which means you can easily find it when one glove is already on, and a connection buckle to keep them together in a bag.
