The specialist outdoor retailer established in 1986 launches its Trekitt gear rental service so you can ‘rent, adventure, return’.
This autumn, the outdoor retailer shortlisted by our readers in The Great Outdoors Awards 2024 promises to revolutionise access to the world’s best outdoor gear as it launches the brand new Trekitt gear rental service. Giving you the chance to try before you buy and hire premium equipment at a fraction of its RRP, Trekitt’s new online initiative is available to everyone across the UK.

Trekitt’s rental collection contains a range of carefully selected products from leading names such as Rab, Fjällräven, Mountain Equipment and Osprey. A testament to the company’s confidence in the quality and longevity of the gear it sells, Trekitt believes this new service will have multiple benefits for new and existing customers.
In addition to helping break down some financial barriers to the outdoors by providing more cost-effective access to high-quality kit, the team hopes that by encouraging its customers to rent rather than buy, it will maximise the lifespan of each product and contribute towards a more circular economy.
The Trekitt gear rental service will offer a selection of handpicked products from across a range of Trekitt’s premium brands, available to customers nationwide via the retailer’s website. As well as enabling outdoor enthusiasts the chance to hire rather than buy expensive items, the team at Trekitt hopes it ensures expedition gear perhaps only used once-in-a-lifetime by a single outdoor enthusiast can be passed on rather than left unused.
In order to ensure that the rental experience offers the same high levels of efficiency and customer service already enjoyed by customers purchasing a product, Trekitt has teamed up with two carefully chosen partners that will lead on the logistics and after-care elements of the service.
Using industry-leading technology, all hire products will be carefully checked, fully laundered and if needed, be repaired or have DWR coatings reapplied, between users. This enables you to be confident that when you hire a product from Trekitt, it will offer the same quality and performance as a brand new item.
The rental fee for each product will be between 15-20% of the RRP per week. A great alternative to purchasing expensive kit that might only be needed once or twice, simply search for the item on Trekitt’s website, click ‘hire’ rather than ‘buy’, and then select the dates you are interested in hiring the product. You will then need to return it using a pre-paid label at the end of the agreed hire period.
If you love the item, Trekitt will also offer you the option to buy it (or the same product from stock) after the hire period at a 30% discount.
Announcing the news of this new rental service launch, Trekitt’s Managing Director, Dave Cassidy, commented: “We’re really excited to be able to offer our new rental service and actively show our commitment to the longevity of our products. The reasons behind our decision to launch this new service are numerous: from providing cost-effective access to high-quality clothing and equipment, to supporting sustainable manufacturing practices and helping contribute to a more circular economy. While these are all great reasons alone, for me the most exciting point is that we have the opportunity to introduce more new users to the outdoors”.
“I’m sure we can all remember how much our first experiences in the outdoors gave us: learning to overcome adverse environments and deal with challenging situations. These all combine to make us the people we are today. Being able to help those who are just starting out on their own journeys—learning about choosing the right gear and staying safe and comfortable outdoors—is a real privilege for us. Because ultimately, that’s what it’s all about. Getting out there and enjoying it (comfortably!).”
