Although described as a tapered mummy this bag is actually close to rectangular with masses of room around the foot area. It’s also the only bag with a zip that runs right round the foot so it can be opened flat and used as a quilt, which makes it good for a wide range of temperatures. There’s plenty of room inside and I can turn over easily inside it. The shell fabrics are comfortable and the down soft. The bag is treated with an anti-microbial and anti-insect treatment. The former prevents it smelling, the latter, says Lifeventure, repels mosquitoes and bed bugs. There’s a small pocket on the outside and two inner pockets for sleeping in places where you need to keep money and travel documents secure.
The Downlight 1200 is quite heavy compared with alternatives but the price is low for a down bag. The bag also comes with a waterproof stuffsack with an air valve so it can be really compressed. The stuffsack can be inflated and used as a pillow too.
