The Steal waterproof trousers would be a good choice for all-day winter-wear as they’re not only waterproof but also lined with a nice micro-fleece. They’re comfortably rather than overly hot, and more far comfortable than sweaty over-trousers. The fabric’s stretch element, while effective, isn’t distractingly noticeable, though it does impart a slight Latexlike feel to the outer surface. On test, I found the DWR on the front legs was almost completely ineffective, while rain ran off the back like water off a duck’s back. I suspect nothing more than a faulty batch of treated fabric.
Hand pockets could be deeper and therefore, despite zip closures, feel a little insecure. The openings are slightly constricted and zips have consequently rubbed against my hands.
I’ve found the stated 38” waist measurement just about right for me though the regular leg length was a little too long. Alterations would be fiddly due to the Velcro-fastened ankle closure tab.
