Nominations are now being accepted for the UK National Parks Volunteer Awards
The UK National Park Volunteer Awards, held every year, are a way of thanking volunteers for the thousands of hours they dedicate to making sure our National Parks remain Britain’s treasured landscapes.
Nominations are being accepted by UK National Parks in four categories – Individual, Young Person (25 years and below), Group and Project. The Group and Project winners will receive a £1,000 bursary towards their future volunteering efforts. The individual and young person winners will receive outdoor gear. Nominations are being accepted until midnight on Friday 23 September 2016.
Announcing the 2016 Awards, National Parks UK Director Kathryn Cook said “The Volunteer Awards are always one of the highlights of our calendar. We love the awards because they give us an opportunity to showcase our amazing volunteer force and all the tremendous work they put in across the 15 National Parks. Help us to find our National Park heroes and give them the recognition that they deserve”.
Emyr Williams, Chief Executive of Snowdonia National Park Authority added, “The awards recognise the hard work of volunteers deemed to have gone above and beyond the usual expectations of volunteer service. In Snowdonia, project volunteers from the summit of Snowdon, to Plas Tan y Bwlch, to Trawsfynydd and Penmaenpool make valuable contributions to maintain the special qualities of the area and sometimes, they endure tough conditions and challenging weather at the same time.”
To be eligible for the Awards, nominees need not be volunteering for a UK National Park. All that is required is that the volunteer service or project take place within the boundaries of one of the UK’s 15 National Parks.
