The founders of Freedom of Sleep say they wanted something that “combined our love of the great outdoors with doing something good”. To achieve that, for every product sold, a jacket or sleeping bag will be donated to “those homeless or displaced”.
So far, Freedom of Sleep offers just four down jackets, models with and without hoods in men’s and women’s sizes. The jackets are filled with 600 fill- power duck down described as ‘sustainable’ and have shells with DWR treatments. All seams are stitched-through and the jackets have handwarmer pockets, an internal pocket, elasticated cuffs and drawcord hem. They can be stuffed into a handwarmer pocket for carrying and to make a travel pillow. Prices are low, making the jackets great value for money.

Tested: Freedom of Sleep Hooded Down Jacket

I’ve tested the hooded down jacket and found it warm for the weight of 414g. It kept me warm on the freezing snowy summit of Ben Macdui and at an equally cold high-level camp in the Cairngorms. It’s a great top for backpacking and cold weather walking.
