Out There: a Voice from the Wild is Chris Townsend’s ode to the outdoors. Inside, he draws on over forty years of experience as an outdoorsman: the long-distance walks, the overnight escapes, the landscapes and wildlife encountered as well as the many walkers and climbers who have left a mark on him.
Written from his home in the heart of the Cairngorms he discusses the wild, its importance to civilisation and how we cannot do without it.
There aren’t many wild corners in the UK that Chris hasn’t trodden, and certainly not a Munro left unvisited – in 1996 he became the first person to climb each one, plus the Tops, in one walk. Further afield, he’s thru-hiked both the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide and has walked the whole length of the Canadian Rockies.
