The Mountain Heritage Trust (MHT) has moved from its base in Penrith to join the Field Studies Council at the Blencathra Centre near Thelkeld, Cumbria.
The heritage arm of the British Mountaineering Council, the MHT functions to preserve and exhibit artifacts from Britain’s rich history in the fields of climbing, mountaineering and mountain culture. The Field Studies Centre will now serve as a location for the MHT to store and exhibit its collection of documents, photos, films and objects.
Head of Blencathra Field Studies Centre, Tim Foster said: “The most natural place in Britain to locate the MHT collections are with us on the slopes of the much loved Blencathra, Many of the students taking part in activities here will be able to look at the items, which they were not able to do when it was in Penrith.”
The Field Studies Centre provides a space for learning about the outdoors, offering classes to schools, universities and colleges in natural history, outdoor activity and environmental understanding.  The official opening of the new premises for the MHT took place at the Centre on Friday 24 March with speeches from Mountaineer Doug Scott CBE and Professor Tim Burt President of the Field Studies Council.
