New for this year, Berghaus’s Vapour Light base layers are designed for warm weather and aerobic activities. As the first samples weren’t available until the autumn I haven’t used it in summer weather but have worn it under other base layers and found it fast wicking, quick drying and comfortable.
The fabric has an antimicrobial treatment, that Berghaus call Argentium, consisting of natural silver salts from recycled silver that inhibit the growth of odourcausing bacteria (argentum is the Latin for silver). So far, after several days wear and a couple of washes, it has worked fine. Polygiene, the makers, say the treatment will last the life of the garment. I hope so. Other silver treatments I’ve used haven’t done so. Polygiene is also said to be environmentally okay and is Bluesign approved. The fabric itself is soft and comfortable and has a slight stretch. There are mesh panels under the arms and down the sides for faster wicking. The shoulder and side seams are offset. It shouldn’t be too hot in the summer and thus is a year round garment. The light weight (it’s the lightest garment tested) means it would be a good choice for carrying as a spare garment or for camp wear too.
