Berghaus introduced water-resistant down to the UK a few years ago and I was impressed as soon as I tried a garment in damp conditions. The Ramche Hyper is new to the Hydrodown range, having been launched last autumn. It’s astonishingly light at 193 grams and warmer than many down jackets that weigh three times as much. This is due to the 850 fill power down and the Pertex Quantum GL shell. The jacket also has a body-mapping construction with more fill over the core and less on the arms and sides. I’ve worn the Ramche Hyper on sub-zero nights and it’s kept me warm with just a thin base layer and fleece underneath.
