The filtration system from Platypus is for larger quantities of water than the two on-the-go systems reviewed here. The theory is quite simple: fill one two-litre reservoir with dirty water. Water then drains down through a filter and into another two-litre reservoir below it. This is a system to use when at camp or a break. The kit includes two reservoirs, a filter and all the tubes, and all in for an amazing 325g. Two litres of water (from my very dirty pond) took one and a half minutes to drain. The water can be drained into the hoses of most hydration bladders, and bottles with a clever little adaptor. It’s a more elaborate kit than others here, but it’s excellent for camp and also filling multiple bottles and hydration reservoirs when water is scarce.
