These simple stretch fabric tubes have become a big success in recent years as they are functional and simple. They can be worn as hats, neck protectors, balaclava and headbands. I’ve been carrying one year round for several years – in summer it’s often the only warm headwear I pack. This latest version gives UV and insect protection – it’s treated with Permethrin. I wore it as a balaclava when the midges were out and they certainly avoided my head and neck, though not of course my face. It was a bit hot worn like this too. I wouldn’t choose this version because of the insect protection but a Buff of some sort is well worth having.
