Judy Armstrong isn’t convinced by the hillwalking potential of these sandals

Harmony Life Strap was Hi-Tec’s closest offer to a technical sandal for women but really it’s more leisure oriented. It is very comfortable, with soft, neoprene-like strap linings and a microfibre footbed. There is little support from the supple upper or the flat footbed. Minimal adjustment is provided by a neat quick-release buckle at the ankle; there is a tiny Velcro tab at the forefoot but actual adjustment is virtually nil. There is no means of adjusting the heel and as the strap linings are stretchy there is no lateral support. EVA is used in the midsole, which is surprisingly stiff laterally (a good thing: the sandal twists less, especially on steeper ground). The sole unit has a random, shallow lug pattern but is too flat for ‘real’ walking. The front is tipped up which gives some protection against toe-stubbing but I didn’t venture onto anything too rough as I couldn’t make them secure on my feet. A good choice for a summer beach holiday, perhaps.
