After a few years without a clothing range Lowe Alpine, now under the same umbrella as Rab, is soon to launch a new one. The fi rst item from this I’ve seen and used is this pair of gloves. They are waterproof, quite breathable and comfortable. In terms of warmth they lie between softshell gloves like those from Montane and Outdoor Research and thick insulated gloves and mitts like those from Arc’teryx, Berghaus and Extremities. This makes them suitable for all but the coldest winter weather. Whilst not as good as with thinner gloves, dexterity is okay for gloves of this warmth. The design is fine too. I don’t think the Velcro wrist strap is needed but everything else works well. The short gauntlet style means they can be worn under or over a jacket sleeve. The reinforcements don’t extend over the finger tips or run between the fingers. Sizing is quite generous as the medium supplied for test is the same size as many gloves labelled large.
