The Precip Full-Zips are basically the same as Marmot’s regular Precip pants, but with a full side zip. That ought to put them somewhere akin to The North Face Strider full-zipped pants but I found these more comfortable plus they had other advantages. First-off , they’re a tenner (three pints!) cheaper, more than 100g lighter and, on my legs at least, the articulation works much better despite the full-length side zips. They also pack away that bit smaller and, as we hope they’ll spend most of their time in your pack, occupy less space.
There’s no mesh lining – which accounts for a good chunk of the weight difference – though the pockets are mesh-lined and a little larger, so more effective as vents. Side zips also contribute to venting as the waist elastication isn’t quite as aggressive. Ankle fastenings feature press-studs rather than Velcro straps, along with elasticated drawcords though they’re operated from within the ankle, making them a tad fiddly.
