This Montane Trail Lite is sold as a trail running glove, but I found it suitable for hillwalking and a bit of cold scrambling too. They’re a snug fit with good finger length and not much left over fabric anywhere around the hand. This makes them very easy to use for any fiddly jobs or intricate tasks.

they are designed to be light. They also work really well as a liner glove, and I’ve used them a lot this summer when it’s been wet and windier than ideal!

The cuffs are very neat and a nice length, with a slightly elasticated hem, and then more elastic at the base of the hand to keep the gloves in place.

The back of the hand is Chameleon LT softshell fabric, which is a very effective windproof layer for its weight, and you can really notice the difference when you put these gloves on. The palm is a stretchy material which is very breathable and not windproof, but helps regulate temperature if you’re moving fast. There’s no lining in these so no additional insulation.

The thumb and forefinger are touchscreen compatible, and work almost as well as just your bare fingers. There’s a fleece patch on both thumbs as a nose wipe, which is very soft. While there’s not a connection buckle, these are small enough to fold together like a pair of socks which keeps them as a pair easily.

I was really impressed with how good these are for their size and weight, and very easy to have tucked away in a pocket. If they are used for lots of scrambling or activities where they might get a bit more wear, I would expect the stitching to go quicker than others in this test, as they are designed to be light. They also work really well as a liner glove, and I’ve used them a lot this summer when it’s been wet and windier than ideal!
