The RAB Geon is the only fleece hiking glove in this test, and is a basic no frills model, which still does a great job. It’s a snug fit with good length fingers, but you do notice the seams all meeting at the fingertips a bit. Not enough to get in the way, but sometimes they fold over slightly, and need to be readjusted to the right place.

Kirsty Pallas’ verdict

A nice, simple lightweight glove for summer walking or walking into the snowline in winter, that can also be worn as a thick liner glove for a waterproof over glove or mitt.

A simple cuff that’s slightly elasticated is low volume and sits easily under layers, jacket cuffs and a watch if you want. They’re a nice length to cover the coldest parts of our wrists, without being too long for tucking into other cuffs. There’s no potion for adjusting the cuff though, so depending on your wrist size it could feel like a squeeze to get them on, or a bit drafty.

The Thermic fleece material with integrated elastane is very stretchy and warm. The grid pattern keeps heat in well, and gives some wind protection, but they are not windproof. The inside of the glove is the brushed back, which is soft and cosy to wear. They do still stay warm when wet, but any wind while they’re wet does steal away some of the warmth. They’re fast drying though, so if they do get damp, it doesn’t take long for them to dry from the wind of body heat.

They aren’t touchscreen compatible, which does mean you need to take them off to use a phone, or dampening the tips of the gloves also works. They have a connection buckle to keep the pair together in your bag.
