As well as ultralight down jackets Berghaus has also been producing ultralight synthetic garments with the VapourLight Hypertherm range. Equivalent in warmth to a medium weight fleece/windproof jacket combination Hypertherm tops are reversible, with one side being more windproof than the other so the garment can be worn in a wide range of temperatures. The original garment, which I tried two years ago, weighed 163 grams. Now there are two versions, a minimalist Race Smock at 156 grams and the Hoody with hood and pockets at 222 grams. I’ve been using the latter since last autumn and it’s excellent.
