Chris Townsend reviews a very light and minimal windshell
This review is part of our windshells gear guide, and was first published in the April 2018 issue of The Great Outdoors.
By far the lightest garment tested, the Dynafit React is the windshell to choose if weight is more important than features. Unsurprisingly it has few of the latter. There are no pockets and no drawcords. The hood just has an elasticated rim which can blow back a little when facing into strong winds. The slick breathable fabric is very thin but still windproof. The fit is on the very slim side. I found the Large only just big enough over a light fleece and an XL would be more comfortable.
I prefer garments with adjustable hoods and at least one pocket but it would be churlish to complain about the lack of these on a garment this light. It does seem quite expensive given how simple it is though. Still, if you’re cutting every gram it could be worth the money for three-season use.
