The Paramo Velez Adventure Smock is designed for a wide range of activities. TGO’s gear editor Chris Townsend reviews this versatile jacket.
This smock from Paramo is the shortest garment that’s designed to be worn with Paramo trousers in rain. I’ve always liked Paramo Nikwax Analogy fabric as it’s extremely breathable and comfortable. In cold weather it’s my first choice. I do find it too warm in summer. I only use it when I expect to wear it all day due to the weight as well. The warmth and breathability mean it works well as a warm windproof garment as well as a waterproof and the softness and comfort means it’s fine in camp. This is far more than a rain shell.
The Paramo Velez Adventure Smock is designed for a wide range of activities. As a cool weather top for walking it’s excellent. The smock design allows it to have a large horizontal front pocket that easily holds maps. There are full-length side zips for ventilation and to make getting it on and off easy. Inside these at the hem is a long pocket with zips each side that’s great for warming your hands.
The hood has a wired brim and fits snugly round the head. It gives great protection and doesn’t impede vision.
This isn’t a jacket for carrying in case it rains but one for wearing all day. For the latter it really is excellent.
