Will Renwick gives his take on Rohan’s new technical gilet for men
This insulated gilet by Rohan features a mix of down and synthetic fills. On the torso and back there’s a 650 fill power goose down in baffles whereas on the shoulders and sides there’s a polyster filling called Insuloft.
Rohan says that it has placed synthetic fill on the shoulders instead of down as it’s more durable against compression from rucksack straps. This is a good idea and it does seem to work. I’m not sure why it’s also been placed on the sides though. It makes the jacket a tad heavier (325g) than most similar vests that are completely down filled. The outer material is made from a polyamide with a Durable Water Repellent treatment. This gives a good degree of protection from the wind.
The Daylite has two warm hand pockets that are zipped and there’s also an internal zipped one that doubles as a stuff sack also.
It has quite a slim fit, and I found the hem – which has a volume adjuster – slightly short. But overall it is comfortable, and I felt it fitted close enough without being too tight at the arm pits. It’s a good size for wearing underneath most waterproof jackets.
