Wonderfully light (if a tad tight on me), the Elites share several features with the featured Berghaus over-trousers. Their near-full-length two-way zip is ideal for easy pulling over footwear – convenient if caught out in sudden downpours – and can be used for venting without unduly risking water ingress. The mesh rear pocket could assist venting slightly. The side zips pop-shut at the ankle with a choice of two positions to accommodate different footwear.
Access to pockets in trousers worn beneath is also possible using the side zips, with relative ease. The zippered fly will, I’m sure, be welcomed by half our readership. The fabric doesn’t feel like it’d stand-up to long-term abrasion from deep heather and such. But these pants are light, take up little space in a pack and would (but for that tight fit and prohibitive price) be my over-trousers of choice. If only I’d stuck to my New Year’s resolution…
