These Pedroc 2 Durastretch Softshell hiking pants from Salewa are a good option for UK summer, where it might be warm, but it’s quite likely a bit damp or windy! They’re nice and light, with a good stretch to the fabric, but also wind and water resistant, which gives some protection on those on off weather days.

These are a great three season trouser option, either under waterproofs on those kinds of days, or by themselves.- Weight

The fit of the Pedroc 2 Durastretch Softshell is high waisted, which is good for being able to tuck layers in and keep warm, as well as not slippy down through the day. There’s a popper and zipped fly, but also a tie to fine tune the fit of the elasticated waistband. I got the short leg which fit me well, and I can use the popped on the hem to tighten up which slightly shortens the leg length when wearing shoes. The popper doesn’t cinch the hem loads though, so there’s still space for a bulky ankle boot if needed.
Hand pockets are a good size for hands and a phone, as well as being zipped to stop anything falling out. The zipped back pocket on the waistband would fit a key or energy bar, but would be uncomfortable under a harness or rucksack.
With a gusseted crotch and shaped knees, they’re very well suited to scrambling and climbing, where stretch and movement are needed. However the fabric does get a bit furry where it’s been in contact with rock, so suggests it might be a little less durable than a heavier fabric. It’s treated with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent to keep you dry in light showers.
