The Kelling hiking glove is an all weather glove from Sealskinz, renowned for their waterproof gloves and socks. I found the fit on these quite unusual though, and even the small felt too big, with space around the palm, and a couple of centimetres extra length on each finger. This meant I wasn’t able to actually do very much when wearing them as there was just not enough dexterity, and I would have to take them off for anything fiddly or intricate.

Kirst Pallas’ verdict

These are a good waterproof glove if you have bigger hands with long fingers, but I would like to see a few more features like a pull loop or a connection buckle for more ease of use.

The cuffs on the Kelling glove are neoprene which makes them flexible and comfortable, and they are a good length to fit under a jacket cuff, but they are one of the shorter ones in the test. There is a velcro closure to tighten them up, but it’s on the back of the wrist, which I find counter intuitive, and harder to get the right tension. The velcro tabs have velcro right the way down to the end, so can be hard to adjust if they are already stuck down.

The outer is slightly stretchy, with a goatskin leather palm, which is grippy and durable. The waterproof membrane is Sealskinz own Aquasealz which is built into the glove and keeps them dry for a long time, plus is breathable. The lining is a soft brushed fleece which is comfortable, but there isn’t much insulation on top of this, which means they are a bit cooler than some of the other gloves in this test.

They are touchscreen compatible, which works even if the fit is slightly off. They don’t have any way of fastening them together, so it’s easy to misplace one in the depths of your rucksack.

These are a good waterproof glove if you have bigger hands with long fingers, but I would like to see a few more features like a pull loop or a connection buckle for more ease of use.
